I just want to give the environment a hug, especially at home here in New Zealand, where we are facing the worst man-made ecological disaster ever. The beaches that are covered in oil are only an hours drive from where I live and make up a huge part of my childhood and life and it's all round depressingly upsetting seeing birds that were already endangered dying. 1000's of birds have already died and we're only a week into the slick. Am pretty gutted because so many of my friends are involved in the protection of the environment in some way and this is what they are having to deal with at the moment, seeing all their hard work undone. I also want to kick the captain and first mate of the Rena in the balls because this could have been avoided.

If you have no idea what I'm talking about and actually care, google the words "Rena" and "oil" and you'll find out what's been happening in this small corner of the world, because I doubt that this would make world headlines.

Hmm...

I have time on my hands. Both babies are asleep (for maybe another 30 minutes). They are finally settling into a predictable routine. And they sleep at night. So it could be a lot worse, but I am feeling selfish and want all my free time back. I feel like drawing for the first time in months and have three unfinished pictures. I'll need to re-read the stories, but I think I know what I'm going to try and do in my down time tomorrow.

Had my second scan yesterday and the twins look good (nice and healthy and all on the chart for growth). Didn't cooperate of course, one in a tight fetal position and the other lying face down. Apparently (according to friends) they are starting as they mean to go on, being stubborn little shites and not letting their incredibly curious (not to mention IMPATIENT) parents know their gender. *sigh* Another scan in three weeks time - maybe more luck then. Will need scans every 2-3 weeks from now on in apparently to ensure they are growing at the same rate.

Also, cakes are yummy. And I have completed my cake decorating course. I give you three example of my work so far. (Erm... the only examples of my work so far.) And I apologise for the quality - photos were taken with my phone.

Nom nom nom... now I feel like cake. Sorry for not putting this under a cut - work computer doesn't like pop-ups and just causes headaches.

In memory of family and friends who have lost the battle with cancer; and in support of the ones who continue to conquer it! Post this on your LJ if you know someone who has or had cancer.

I've lost... well, what seems like more than my fair share of people to cancer. My aunt, my grandfather, a childhood friend 20 years ago, another friend 13 years ago, my dad has it at the moment, my mother-in-law- and father-in-law both have it, two of my husbands four grandparents have it. Living in NZ means that skin cancer is a prevalent part of society and unavoidable. As a couple with no dependants and both in fulltime employment I consider ourselves very fortunate that we can make monthly donations to two causes, one of which is Oncology Research (the other goes to the SPCA).

Also, seeing as this post has now kind of got me down, I'll put thoughts out there for my mum, who died overnight in her sleep very suddenly (but had survived her cancer) and my sole surviving grandparent who is now permanently in hospital. Makes me really appreciate the small family I have left, my brother and my dad. I have three cousins (all sisters), one who lives in Japan, another who lives in America and another who lives in New Zealand. Lucky I married into a big family.
